US Panel Moves Four Gallate Preservatives Toward a Final Safety Update

The antioxidant quartet is nearly closed. CIR released a Draft Final Amended Report on alkyl gallates on 11 September 2026—covering propyl GallateFunctional, caprylyl GallateFunctional, dodecyl GallateFunctional, and ethylhexyl GallateFunctional—for the October Panel[1].
In March 2026 the Panel’s Tentative Amended Report called the four safe in present practices of use and concentration when formulated to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing. The draft final folds in a recent atopic-patient patch series that included caprylyl and dodecyl gallate, plus Council comments[1].
If October holds, formulators get a cleaned group conclusion rather than a propyl-gallate-only legacy paper.
