Bis-Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphine Oxide
Light-stabilizer photoinitiator grouped with TPO in the September 2026 CIR Draft Tentative Report; safety conclusion still open.
Bis-Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphine Oxide is reported to function as a light stabilizer. CIR added it to the trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide review after a 2025 read-across decision and is advancing a Draft Tentative Report for the October 2026 meeting.[1]
What it does
As a photoinitiator / light stabilizer it is meant to manage light-driven chemistry in finished formulas, overlapping the nail-focused TPO file rather than acting as a classic skincare active.[1]
The evidence
Staff note outstanding requests for sensitisation at maximum use, phototoxicity outside nail products, non-nail use concentrations, impurities, and method of manufacturing for this ingredient and Ethyl Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphinate.[1] Grade stays emerging until the Panel closes those gaps or issues a qualified conclusion.
How to use it
Check the INCI list on nail and specialty formulas; do not treat marketing copy as a substitute for the pending CIR conclusion.
