Bemotrizinol (INCI: Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine; BEMT) is a photostable organic UV filter long used outside the U.S. FDA final order OTC000039 added it to OTC Monograph M020 at concentrations up to 6%, effective 9 August 2026[1].

What it does

It absorbs across UVB and UVA and is often paired with other filters for broad-spectrum SPF formulas.

Regulatory peg

Under the amended monograph, bemotrizinol sunscreens must meet M020 conditions on concentration, combinations, and dosage forms. The DSM OMOR carried time-limited exclusivity under section 505G[1].
